Mary 's Story

For those who are interested. My Personal Life: I have lived in the San Joaquin Valley now for about 27 years. Currently I live in Manteca. I've been married to Bob Blanco for 32 years and we have 4 children and 5 grandchildren - ages 15mo. to 16yr. Bob, is a native of Tracy which is how I ended up in the valley. Additionally, my mom and dad moved to Modesto in 1968 - and I wanted to be nearer to them as well. When I married Bob, he had two children; an 8 yr old son (Tim) and a 5 yr old daugher (Tina) They are now 40 & 37, respectively. By Tim we have one grandson and two grandaughters. By Tina we have one grandson. Bob & I also had two more children together. A daughter Lisa - age 30 (who's now an attorney and practices in Stockton). Lisa graduated from Stanford in 2000 and later returned to Stanford law school. She is married, lives in Manteca, and has the 15 mo. old son, Anthony, whose picture I posted in my photo album. We also have a son, Michael, age 27, who is currently living back at home; a move he made while attending bible college - three years ago. He is still single, but has a wonderful girlfriend of 5 years who he plans to marry in a few years. My Business Life: I still work for Rohm and Haas Co, based out of Philadelphia and have been with them since 1973. I'm a financial cost analyst for three Rohm and Haas sites, one in Hayward (where I began my career) one in Los Angeles and another in Chicago. Thankfully, I now work virtually and no longer commute to Hayward. Although I do visit all my sites throughout the year. My Educational Life: After my mom died in 1995, I decided to go back to school so I enrolled at Las Positas college - Livermore campus. After earning my AA there, I continued my education and attended St. Mary's college where I received my BA. I was blessed in that my company has a great tuition aid program, of which I took full advantage. I've thought about going back for a Masters, but decided again...Expand for more
st it since I'm getting close to retirement and I don't know if I would put it to much use; or better yet, if I'm really up to it at this point in my life. There are so many other things I'd like to pursue given the opportunity. My Spiritual Life: I'm a devout christian and I attend Christian Worship Center (CWC )in Manteca where I'm an active member. Basically, in 1980 I came back home - to my roots- that is to where my spiritual foundation was formed. To the heart of God. I was raised by parents who met in bible college and were both ministers of the gospel. You'd never know that while I was in highschool! Back then I was a rebelious latina- not wild - but still a rebel. I rebeled against the establishment, against prejudice, against the school dress code, against my parent's strict rules, but worst of all, against God. I'd wear my hair 10" high, and my skirts 10" too short. (how many of you can remember the days when girls could not wear pants to school!) So, I'd always get called into the principals office, asked to kneel so that they could measure the length of my skirt. (but that was okay, since I typically had it neatly rolled up at the waist and could lower it at a moments notice) Funny, occasionally I still have dreams of wandering the school halls looking for my standard issue locker and trying to recall my my combination. Any of you have those dreams? Those of you who knew me well will also recall how much I loved to sing and dance. Well I still do, however, it's directed upward. I sing on the church worship team as well as the choir. You can find me on the platform each Sunday morning soulfully singing my heart out. If you're ever in the area on a Sunday morning perhaps you might say to yourself, " I think I'll stop by and say hi to Liz" In case you get the urge, the address is 786 Button Ave. - Manteca. A big church you can see heading North on Highway 99. Wow, this was fun! Look forward to reading some of your stories. Liz,
